How we can help

Neurological physiotherapy is a highly specialised field of physiotherapy, often dealing with debilitating and long-term conditions that dramatically change people’s lives.

Here at Yorkshire Neuro Physiotherapy, we understand the impact that a neurological disorder can have on an individual and their family. Our specialist team provides knowledge, support, practical solutions and hands-on therapy to target your difficulties and manage your functional needs.

Neurological physiotherapy manages the following types of symptoms and difficulties, caused by neurological disorders:

  • Muscle problems
  • Joint stiffness
  • Pain
  • Walking difficulties
  • Sensory problems and perceptual difficulties
  • Spasticity
  • Co-ordination and balance difficulties
  • Problems with normal movement
  • Fatigue and reduced exercise tolerance
  • Functional problems

Each neurological condition varies in its presentation depending upon the nature and severity of the problem, the individual concerned and any other associated or underlying medical conditions. As such, symptoms and needs are unique to each person and therefore management strategies, short and long-term goals, and physiotherapy approaches must be individually-tailored.

How we helpWe devise an appropriate management programme for each client, following a thorough initial assessment of their difficulties and presenting symptoms. Our findings are then discussed in depth with that individual and together, we formulate a physiotherapy rehabilitation plan to help tackle their problems and ultimately improve their quality of life. Some physiotherapy programmes will require long-term input, and therefore rehabilitation plans are reviewed regularly to establish current needs and react to any changes that have occurred.

We can provide physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation within a person’s home, care home, hospital, or from one of our designated rehabilitation clinics. Disabled access and parking is available at all of our sites. We are happy to work alongside other health professionals involved in an individual’s rehabilitation such as Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Care / Support Workers and Orthotists in order to maximise recovery.

Our highly-trained team is able to offer specific training in areas such as manual handling, positioning and rehabilitation / maintenance exercises that may be necessary to an individual’s day-to-day care. Training may be required by families, care workers, nursing staff and other health professionals responsible for the care of an individual in a nursing / care home, hospital or other organisation.

Physiotherapy rehabilitation may include:

  • Manual (hands on) therapy techniques
  • Exercise rehabilitation
  • Home exercise programme
  • Respiratory management
  • Functional rehabilitation
  • Postural advice and re-education
  • Seating and wheelchair assessment, training and advice
  • Gait re-education
  • Pain management
  • Acupuncture
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Advice and training on aids, adaptations, moving and handling, and positioning regimes

A number of our clients are referred to us from Case Managers, Solicitors and Insurance Companies who may be involved with an individual’s medical case. As part of this process, we can provide detailed reports and professional recommendations should they be required, based upon our thorough assessment of the client and our expertise in this area. We will also liaise with other professionals involved where appropriate. We operate a confidential and professional service, where we consider the privacy, dignity and security of each individual to be of the utmost importance. Our Company is bound by the Data Protection Act (1998) and we will only release physiotherapy records to other professionals, upon gaining consent from the individual concerned.

We also receive referrals from GPs, Consultants and cross-referrals from other health professionals such as Podiatrists and Occupational Therapists.

Our Company is covered by all the major private Health Insurance Companies such as BUPA, AXA/PPP, Pru Health, Simply Health, and WPA, and your physiotherapist can provide written receipts for each physiotherapy session if you are able to claim back the costs of your sessions through a recognised reimbursement scheme (such as Simply Health or Sovereign Healthcare).
